The Fairmont Banff Springs Course Opens for 2012 Season

Are you ready to play, Canadian Rockies Golf fans?

We have a few photos to share from the Fairmont Banff Springs golf course (http://www.fairmont.com/banffsprings).  The course opened for play this week and invites you to play and enjoy.

First news:  The Fairmont Banff Springs golf shop has recently been renovated.

The new shop boasts a new accessories wall, among many other features.

The course also has regular visitors, both of the two and four-legged kind.

See this photo of a coyote who's made his way to the course on the first day of play.

Make sure you give him a wide berth and time to clear the fairway.

Have any photos to share? Send us a link and we'll post it here and on our Facebook page.

Recent Awards and Canadian Rockies in the News

http://golfweek.com/news/2012/apr/26/golf-canadian-rockies-worth-hike/
Golfweek magazine recently told its readers that the Canadian Rockies were "Worth the Hike." Don't take our word for it - Travel Editor Marty Kaufmann describes it here:  http://golfweek.com/news/2012/apr/26/golf-canadian-rockies-worth-hike/

In addition to the story, Golfweek named five of the courses in its Best Canadian Courses list, released in mid-April.  The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and The Fairmont Banff Springs were listed second and fourth, respectively, to its Best Canadian Classic Courses list; Kananaskis Country’s Mount Kidd and Mount Lorette as well as Canmore’s Stewart Creek were listed to the Top Modern Courses in Canada list.

Golf Digest also named The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to its “100 Best Outside the U.S.” international golf rankings in its April edition.  Both The Fairmont Banff Springs and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge were also named to Conde Nast Traveler’s “Top 121 Golf Resorts in the World” list, released this month.

Time to Book Your Canadian Rockies Golf Getaway (Not as Hard as You Think)

As our fingers itch to grab a golf club, it's time to start planning your annual golf trip.

The Canadian Rockies Golf destination is not a hard sell – who wouldn’t want to play amid the towering Alberta mountains, playing historic courses when the days are long and the ball goes farther than you imagined?

Planning your trip is easier than you think. We’ve included some tips below:

1) Getting there – a direct flight away.

Many don’t know that Calgary International Airport is only a flight away from most major U.S. airports. Here’s a list of air carriers with direct flights from select cities:
  • Air Canada: direct flights from New York City, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas
  • West Jet: direct from Orlando, Honolulu, Toronto, Vancouver
  • United: direct from San Francisco (for Star Alliance members)
  • US Airways: direct from Phoenix
  • Delta: direct from Minneapolis

2) Pick your time frame

Golf courses in Alberta generally open at the beginning of May and close after Canada’s Thanksgiving, the second week of October. Remember:
  • Daylight can last 15 hours in late June through mid August (play 36 or more in one day!)
  • Temperatures are favorable between mid June and October 1 in beating the summer heat
  • Like fall color? September to early October are your best bets.

3) Pick a package – or make your own.

We recommend you choose one of our signature Canadian Rockies Golf experiences if you’re traveling for the first time. It takes the mystery work out of routing, giving you more time to enjoy a sampling from the destination. Here are a few worth considering:

The Canadian Rockies Invitational: Our best value, this 5 night/4 round trip includes play at The Fairmont Banff Springs, Kananaskis Country, and your choice of three stunning courses in Canmore, starting at $909 per person.

Fairmont Golf and Spa: Enjoy 4 nights and 2 rounds, plus a treatment at The Fairmont Banff Spring’s famed Willow Stream spa, starting at $949 per person. Ask about trips to The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, as well.

Pins and Fins: Enjoy four nights, 2 rounds, plus a full-day fly-fishing excursion

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
We're gearing up with a few good pieces of news to share:
  • GOLF Magazine has named both The Fairmont Banff Springs and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to its Gold Resorts List - an elite cadre of 25 offering the best golf experiences in North America.  This comes after being named to Golf Digest's Top 75 Resorts late last year.  Don't take their word for it - come visit!

  • The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge will celebrate a 90th birthday this year; Kananaskis Country will celebrate its 30th.  There are great anniversary specials to share.  What's your favorite moment at each location?

  • We have new package offerings for 2012: and they tie in what you love most:  The Centennial of the Calgary Stampede, golf and fishing, and golf-til-you-drop opportunities.

Now's the time to plan a trip - most courses will open in May, and have already opened their tee sheets.  We can book your vacation now, and include a rental car and greeter service to walk you through the process.
